The proceq GS8000 is an underground utility mapping system that combines the most advanced GPR technology with state-of-the-art GNSS, to not only locate underground objects, but to digitize scanned features and linework on a 3D map and output to CAD/GIS directly from the field. Therefore, GS8000 is as much a surveying tool as it is a GPR.

Electromagnetic pipe locators and GPR are complementary geophysical techniques to carry out utility surveys in a non-destructive way. While EM locators are ideal for tracking a specific service line, generally by inducting current, GPR is the ideal technique to identify non-metallic services - or any other service where manhole access or power supply are not at hand – as well as other underground features.

Looking at pure GPR detection capabilities, GS8000 has the unique ability to provide the high resolution of a handheld GPR in the shallow space, where most small and closely spaced utilities, such as PVC cables, can be found and therefore, located and even counted.
Moreover, since the GS8000 can display a heatmap of the scanned freeform area as seen from above in real time, it allows to get a quick overview of the area to be explored, compared to the traditional iterative process of marking with spray on the ground and figuring out service lines, or having to wait for data processing to see any results.

Traditional workflows tend to observe detection (using either GPR, EML, or both) and mapping (using surveying equipment) as two separate processes, carried out by different technicians at different moments. This is mainly a consequence of technological limitations of field equipment.
GS8000, designed as an all-in-one detection and mapping system, allows to streamline this workflow, by digitizing all findings – including those from other sources, such as an EM locator – with homogeneous high accuracy, in one same step, on the same map, in the same coordinate system, saving big amounts of time and money on every survey.

GS8000 uses SFCW (Stepped-Frequency Continuous Wave) GPR technology, which modulates a wide range of radar frequencies at once. Therefore, at the same time, you can expect the penetration depth and performance of a traditional GPR cart for utility locating, and the ultra-high resolution of a handheld GPR for concrete in the first 1 to 1.5 meters, unique in the industry.

GS8000 includes a survey-grade GNSS receiver to provide centimetric precision in real time if standard conditions are met: at least 5 satellites are visible in the sky and your iPad is connected to Internet. In Europe & USA, the GS8000 can connect to the revolutionary SSR augmentation service and get 3-6 cm precision out of the box. Elsewhere, a 2-3 cm precision level can also be achieved by entering the NTRIP details of a nearby RTK server or base station, if available.

In GNSS-denied areas, it is also possible to use third party terrestrial positioning systems. To do so, all that is needed is to connect the field controller of a robotic total station to the GS8000 and stream continuous positions. To achieve so, Proceq offers a cable with a DB-9 (RS232) ending where most third party controllers can be connected – with or without an intermediate serial cable or adapter - and output Pseudo NMEA GGA sentences, understandable by the GS8000.
Alternatively, GS8000 can also be used as a traditional GPR device, without any positioning.

The revolutionary Free Path data collection method allows to scan with your GS8000 on a freeform area and see the resulting heatmap of the subsurface plotted on a map in real time, at the desired depth range. This has an enormous impact in reducing guesswork on site, as opposed to the traditional method of marking findings on the ground with spray and trying to figure out how they align to each other, or time-consuming grid scanning.
With Free Path, it is possible to see a service line literally forming in front of your eyes as you move to make decisions while scanning. Moreover, any features above the surface or found with complementary techniques can be digitized on the same map, thus, providing a comprehensive view of the area while on site, without any need to process and merge data.
When collecting data in Free Path mode, all digital findings and linework on the map can be directly output to CAD and GIS platforms, which rely on the data to be geo-referenced in the right coordinate system. Therefore,...
When collecting data in Free Path mode, all digital findings and linework on the map can be directly output to CAD and GIS platforms, which rely on the data to be geo-referenced in the right coordinate system. Therefore, GS8000 comes pre-loaded with official EPSG regional and state level coordinate systems used by most popular GIS systems, as defined by the Geomatics Committee of the International Association of Oil & Gas.
When you set up the GS8000 to work on a particular coordinate system, the coordinates of every scan or digitized feature are transformed to it, and effectively applied to the different CAD and GIS outputs. This reduces the need to involve CAD technicians in merging and transform field data in the office, which is a common source of error and inefficiency.
There are multiple types of annotations available:
All these elements can be output to CAD / GIS formats in the corresponding layers and positions.
Additionally, it is possible to add photos manually sketch / draw on top of the image or take screenshots and include them in the reports alongside the annotation types above.
The 3D accuracy of the coordinates of a tag depends on 3 main factors:
Considering all non-human sources of error combined, Proceq GS8000 can provide reliable 3D results on a sub-decimeter range under standard conditions.

Yes. The traditional view on GPR data, that is, a full screen view of the B-scan, is always available with a simple two-finger swipe on the screen. It is also possible to run the GS8000 without absolute positioning, by simply not connecting the GNSS receiver to it.
It is also possible to scan on a predefined grid, following any order and scan pattern.

The recommended controllers are the latest models of iPad Pro WiFi + Cellular (with M1 processor) to ensure the best connectivity and processing power in the market, crucial for moving big amounts of data with ease. Any size of iPad Pro can be mounted on the GS8000 handle using the supplied tablet holder. A protective case is recommended. Under extreme temperatures, a compatible cooling case such as x-Naut is the best choice.
The latest version of the app will work on the current major iOS version in the market, plus the two previous ones. There is no need to pair a specific iPad to the GS8000: any iPad will be able to run the app and control your GS8000, as long as it is running a valid subscription contract.

If Internet is available, the data start synchronizing to the cloud automatically. The time needed to complete the process depends on the mobile network and amount of collected data but is generally very fast. Once synchronized, the field data, reports and CAD/GIS deliverables can be shared with anybody over chat, email, etc. or accessed via web, anywhere, anytime.
The GS app includes a Mobile Data Saving setting to prevent the automatic synchronization when using mobile networks; in that case, the synchronization will happen as soon as the iPad connects to a WiFi network.
Yes. Once field data are synchronized to the cloud, the web-based advanced data analysis tool GPR Insights can be used to start processing them in a matter of minutes, anywhere in the world.

Additionally, GS8000 field data can also be output in the GPR standard format SEG-Y, compatible with multiple processing software solutions, such as the popular GPR Slice GPR data post-processing software.
